Hi, I am Cecilia Barcia Pintado. I recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BSc in Biochemistry. During my degree, I was a member of the Edinburgh iDEC team, where I worked on plastic degradation. I also worked in the Wallace Lab for my dissertation project, focusing on the valorisation of bread waste using engineered E. coli and exploring how fluorescence could be used to monitor bacterial growth. I am currently an MRes student in Alternative Proteinsand my project focuses on producing colourants using Yarrowia lipolytica. I am particularly interested in using bioengineering to develop microbial cell factories as alternatives to traditional production methods, and I’m excited to explore this through my project.
Outside of the lab, I love hiking, tennis, and surfing. I am also a big foodie and always open to trying new things!
